Protect Your Business From Payment Fraud

Fraud can affect any business that accepts online payments. Taking a few practical steps can help protect your business and reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions.

Know the warning signs

Be alert to unusual activity, including:

  • Sudden increases in transaction volumes or low-value transactions.
  • Multiple failed payment attempts followed by successful payments.
  • Several cards being used for similar transactions.
  • Unusual transaction values or activity outside your normal business pattern.
  • Unexpected changes to merchant account or settlement details.
  • Unusual refund requests or requests to bypass normal procedures.

Protect your business

  • Use available payment-security and fraud-prevention controls, such as 3-D Secure and card verification.
  • Monitor your transactions and investigate unusual activity promptly.
  • Keep your payment systems, website and integrations secure and up to date.
  • Restrict access to your merchant account to authorised users.
  • Use strong passwords and multi-factor authentication where available.
  • Maintain appropriate records of transactions, fulfilment and customer communications.

If you suspect fraud

If you identify suspicious activity, review the transaction and follow your internal fraud procedures. Contact Colibrix promptly through your usual support or account-management channel if you need assistance.

Please do not share passwords, one-time passcodes or other security credentials.

Colibrix may review suspicious activity and, where appropriate, apply additional controls or restrict or suspend payment activity to protect the merchant and the payment ecosystem.

Stay alert. Stay secure.
